The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Foreign Ministry, took part in the Human Rights Council\u2019s 47th meeting in Geneva.<\/p>\n
The virtual meeting aimed to adopt the 3rd Universal Periodic Review (UPR) on human rights. The Sultanate\u2019s delegation was headed by Sheikh Humaid Ali Alma’ani, Head of the International Affairs Department at the Foreign Ministry.<\/p>\n
Sheikh Humaid delivered the Sultanate\u2019s speech to the Council, during which he highlighted the progress achieved in human rights by the Sultanate since the 2nd UPR in 2015.<\/p>\n
He touched on the most important achievements made in different aspects of citizens’ rights in the Sultanate and the various areas of human rights (civil, social, economic, health and cultural) and other rights that enjoy the continuous care and attention of His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik.<\/p>\n
The speech also reviewed the Sultanate’s efforts during the period covered in the report to enhance human rights by joining a number of human rights-related conventions and treaties, as well as enacting legislation to promote them.<\/p>\n
Sheikh Humaid underscored how the Sultanate has embraced many recommendations in different areas of human rights, such as empowering and protecting women in society, children’s rights, freedom of speech, combating human trafficking and maintaining workers\u2019 rights.<\/p>\n
The Sultanate\u2019s participating delegation comprised Idris Abdulrahman Alkhanjari, Permanent Representative of the Sultanate to the United Nations in Geneva, and a number of officials from the Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs, the Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of Social Development and the Ministry of Labour.<\/p>\n
