{"id":10577,"date":"2023-10-17T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2023-10-17T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/archive.fm.gov.om\/10577\/"},"modified":"2023-10-17T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2023-10-17T00:00:00","slug":"oman-committee-for-humanitarian-law-holds-workshop","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.fm.gov.om\/en\/10577\/","title":{"rendered":"Oman Committee for Humanitarian Law holds workshop"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Omani Committee for International Humanitarian Law organised a workshop this morning in collaboration with the Muscat mission of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icrc.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">International Committee of the Red Cross<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The workshop was inaugurated by Ambassador Sheikh Humaid Almaani, Head of the Foreign Ministry&#8217;s Department for Global Affairs and Chairman of the Omani Committee for International Humanitarian Law. Those attending the workshop included committee members from the relevant authorities and representatives of a number of government agencies.<\/p>\n<p>The workshop aimed to raise awareness of the importance of international humanitarian law and to encourage cooperation and the exchange of expertise in humanitarian work and international humanitarian law.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the workshop, Sheikh Almaani said: &#8220;The displacement and targeting of innocent civilians contravenes the rules of international humanitarian law.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Collective punishment by Israel is considered a war crime under international humanitarian law and is one of the worst war crimes,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We call on the international community to assume its responsibilities towards innocent Palestinians.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The workshop covered important topics relating to international humanitarian law, including the principles regulating the use of force, classifying armed conflicts and issues of asylum and displacement.<\/p>\n<p>This is an unofficial English version of an Arabic report.
